Aunt Kathy’s Rock House Foundation – inspired by the incredible spirit and caring of Kathy Smith.

Aunt Kathy

Kathy Smith, or affectionately Aunt Kathy, is the namesake and incredibly powerful motivating force behind the Aunt Kathy’s Rock House Foundation. Also lovingly referred to as the “Hybrid Nun” in Josey’s books and writings, Aunt Kathy lived a remarkable life of faith, service, and love. She endured much in the way of personal loss and pain, without complaint. Aunt Kathy was known to have a gracious and open heart, treating people who often felt different, with love and acceptance.
After 15 years of service as a Catholic nun, Kathy felt God wanted to use her faith differently. Her family touches many lives, and her impact reaches far beyond her small Missouri farm. To read more about Aunt Kathy and why she is not only the namesake behind this foundation, but also a major motivation behind why we do what we do, please click HERE We will continue to share more about Aunt Kathy’s beautiful story, and how her legacy of faith and love continues on.

The Homestead in the Pines

Located in rural eastern Missouri, not far from the great Mississippi river, this secluded property was hand cleared by Josey’s family. The simple home, built log by log by the family themselves in the 1970’s is tucked away in the pines, and is featured in many of the stories Josey has authored over the years. The property is in the process of being reborn into a sanctuary for people to break free from debris that has taken away their joy and sense of purpose in life. The property offers a serene, secure setting with opportunities for group and individual workshops, animal therapies, and immersion in nature.
After a career spanning over 30 years in law enforcement, fire and explosives investigation, Marine Corps service, and peer support work, Josey retired with an ardent desire to expand his work with first responders, military personnel and their families that have experienced emotional trauma. There is a great deal of progress in store for the property in Missouri, and incredible successes will happen here. The Colin Project

Located outside of Moab, Utah, The Colin Project is growing out of a 15 year dream to transform a 1967 Jeepster Commando that had a unique history (See link below). Initially our co-founder Josey was driven singularly for the purpose of having a one-of-kind rock crawler for their family’s desert sanctuary. However, through the 15 year struggle to rehabilitate the Jeep, Josey realized it was perhaps not about his dreams, it was about others. After 4 broken promises from mechanics, he met a man from Missouri with his own unique story. This mechanic employed a relative named Colin, a young man with Autism. Despite facing difficulties associated with society’s interaction and response to people like Colin, Andy the mechanic was helping him thrive and getting people to accept Colin for who he is. Witnessing this, Josey felt a kinship to the part of himself that has never felt accepted by society. He began forging a form of communication with Colin which developed into friendship. As we reveal more of The Colin Project in the coming weeks and months, the ultimate goal is to make people aware of what Autism is, what it is not, and to EMBRACE the beauty of the differences everyone and accept all people for who they truly are.
